Joe DeCree is a pastor, chaplain, and Christian counselor whose heart is to walk with people through the hardest seasons of life and point them toward the hope and healing found in Christ. As the pastor of a veteran outreach church and chaplain for the local VFW and first responders, Joe ministers to those carrying heavy burdens—trauma, grief, loss, and the deep spiritual wounds that often go unspoken.

A retired U.S. Army Green Beret officer with 21 years of service, Joe led multiple platoons, companies, and a Special Forces team, earning two campaign medals, a Bronze Star, and numerous other awards. His military journey shaped his understanding of sacrifice, resilience, and the spiritual battles that can follow those who serve. After retiring, he continued pouring into others by teaching Army cadets, instructing MBA students in leadership, and serving as a lay counselor and mentor.

Through his counseling LLC, Joe combines clinical insight with biblical truth, helping individuals understand that real transformation is possible and that God often works through our pain to reveal strength. He believes clients are the experts of their own stories, and he values helping them rise above labels or diagnoses that try to define them. Joe has worked extensively with veterans, suicidal teens, and individuals facing faith crises, spiritual abuse, and life transitions. He also equips other Christian counselors and mental health professionals as a conference presenter.

Joe has been married to his wife for 32 years and is a proud stepfather and grandfather. When he’s not ministering or counseling, he loves being outdoors—hiking, hunting, skiing, and enjoying God’s creation. Whether in the church, the counseling room, or the community, Joe’s mission is simple: to help people encounter Christ’s healing, rediscover hope, and step into the life God created them to live.

My Values

What you can expect from my counseling.

01

Bible-Based

I am primarily a Christian counselor. I see many mental health issues as spiritual issues or as issues as having a strong spiritual component.

02

Practical Faith

People often have difficulty making faith real and practical. Faith that we can exercise in a crisis or a problem situation is a multiplier for us.

03

You’re the expert

I believe that you are the expert in your own life. I can observe and point out inconsistencies but you are the expert.

04

Use your history

My job is to help you learn from history so that you can use that to strengthen and improve.

05

Informed, not conformed

You are not your diagnosis. A mental health diagnosis is somewhat useful for understanding a problem but it is not you.

06

You have the tools

Your patterns, your skills, your personality, your aptitude, & your experience may be more important in restoring you back to health than a diagnosis.

Your next chapter,
told by others

“I have worked with Joe in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. He is gifted with the ability to come alongside a troubled individual, help them identify where they feel stuck, and then reframe the situation to help that individual get traction to move forward.”

“Joe does not tell me what to do so much as frame options as he sees them and lets me be the expert in how solutions will work in my life. He helps me enact my plan for me to its success.”

“I appreciate the patience Joe has with many questions. I appreciate his straight shooter responses and the time he spends listening.”

“I appreciated the straight talk without a lot of professional terminology. He showed me my strengths and we spent more time learning how to use those than we did talking about how i got messed up.”
